Dr. Smith is amazing: smart, funny, proactive, supportive! She has a unique, real-life approach from other surgeons I met - thinks about how her work impacts your everyday life. She did exactly what she said she could do, which is what every other surgeon told me couldn’t be done and said I wouldn’t like. I’m thrilled with her work and finally so so happy with my mastectomy reconstruction! How Dr. Smith is different: Tons more “before” pictures of me and totally different positions than other surgeons. These are pictures she takes into surgery with her. If someone is going to rebuild your breasts, don’t you want the surgeon who pays attention to how they’ll hang when you’re bending over and leaning in different positions?! She knows the body and how to creatively achieve the look you want. Best surgery prep: you bring your prescriptions to pre-op and they put special labels on each one saying exactly what it’s for and when/how to take it. Everything is numbered, there’s a whole folder with instructions, and lots of free samples for post-op. She advocates for her patients: writes letters and makes calls to other providers, doctors, insurance, disability, etc. She gives awesome advice for how to navigate insurance hoops and pushes for whole body healthcare because she knows her work and healing is tied to the whole body. Dr. Smith is a cheerleader, as is everyone in her office! They never once told me what I should want or pressured, “you need X size or no, you don’t want to go that small, no you need bigger boobs cause you still want to be sexy.” I heard all that from other places but never from anyone at Aisthetikos. They lift you up! Dr. Smith guided me through how we could achieve the look I wanted, gave me permission and time to change my mind, gave me options, involved me in choosing how we’d go about getting the look I wanted, and she encouraged me to trust my gut. Her team is phenomenal!!! All the women are so skilled, meticulous, and experienced. They openly collaborate — you have Dr. Smith and her whole team working together, sharing ideas, and listening to each other while caring for you. No ego wars! I love having a team open to learning and always looking for better ways to do something. She’s never been condescending or made me feel embarrassed when asking questions. When doing something so personal like altering your body, you want to feel safe to ask anything and that’s what I got from Dr. Smith. She’s such a real, warm, caring person - not fake or all big empty talk. I met with some surgeons who were stiff, cold, matter of fact, the opposite of Dr. Smith. She explains and teaches like she’s sharing tips with a friend. You want her hugs, laughs, and reassurance before surgery - puts you right at ease. And if you ever do a surgery awake with her, she’s such a boss while simultaneously the chillest ever. I was awake for my second procedure with her and will have to do a separate post about how amazing it was. Dr. Smith is proactive: she’s not going to wait till something goes wrong. She’s going to prevent it and her whole office functions that way. She chooses smart, skilled experts to work with her and you feel it. I walk in feeling like I have this entire office of the smartest friends taking care of me. Why I found Dr. Smith After my double mastectomy, a different surgeon put in bigger implants than we agreed on, despite me being very clear from the beginning that I wanted to be flat-chested. I saw numerous surgeons after that, trying to find someone who could remove them and do the reconstruction I wanted. Dr. Smith asked thoughtful questions about what I hoped for, what I liked/disliked, how my daily life & activity was, what my experience was like, and how I felt both physically and emotionally. She cares for the whole patient and before I left my first appointment, I found my surgeon and a supporter, collaborator, and a whole office of the most wonderful people ready to take this journey with me. I’m so grateful I found Dr. Smith and can’t imagine where I’d be without her!
